Sun roof problem cured by software update?

My sunroof stopped working a few weeks ago. Just the opening roof. The blind continued to work. None of the solutions suggested on this forum worked so I called Skoda connect. They told me it was not a safety issue therefore not covered so to contact my dealer. I duly booked the car in, (the earliest date being 8th September!) Today a software update was installed. I tried the sunroof just in case it would now work and indeed it did, confirming that the problem was a software one all along. I guess the restart involved after an update is probably what did the trick. Is there any way to force these restarts I wonder?
