I bought my Enyaq 80+ with about 500 miles on the clock (ex demonstrator) at the end of Feb 23. We have now done over 11,000 including a recent 1,700 mile Scottish trip. I love it btw. On that trip an airbag fault came up on the dash. When we got back last week it went into Lister in Banbury to sort the airbag error and to make a software update work that it had been attempting for about a month.

I received the inspection video they send and I was told that all 4 wheels are misaligned and I need 4 new tyres and a 4 wheel alignment at a cost of £1,775.32! I was told that wheel alignment is only warranted for 6 months or 6,000 miles. All 4 tyres have 4 to 5mm on all the 3 areas of the tyre they measure so they have lots of tread life in them. The wear is on inside rim of each tyre. Btw, I know I could get this job done cheaper - that’s not the point!

These are huge low profile tyres and the car is pretty low. The only way you can see the inside of these tyres is to crawl under the car or put it on a ramp. Had there not been an airbag error message this car would probably not have been inspected for another 12+ months. Would the tyres have become dangerous?

I have had lots of new cars in my life and never had this issue. The last car was a Kodiaq vrs, also an ex demonstrator.

What are the thoughts on this? I am appalled that a £49,500 car needs over £1,700 spent on it after 7 months and 11,000 miles.

Lister have been useless. I thought they should

have taken it up with Skoda. I bought it from Marshall in Banbury. The sales manager is going to discuss it with the service dept. We will see.

Maybe the owners of Enyaqs out there who have not had an inspection yet should get one done. You might be driving a dangerous car!

You are not the first to have this issue. I have seen pictures on various forums with the inside of rear tyres worn to the bottom of the tread and more whilst ok on outer visible edge.

However others have had no issues and a long life with their tyres.

Seems like you need to fork out for the all wheel alignment to sort the issue asap, but I don’t see why the tyres need to be replaced until completely worn out?
As it’s not likely to be a warranty job and free, you could be better off going to a specialist who may be cheaper?

There are also posts suggesting that some makes of tyre only last some others about this mileage anyway, and which tyres to go to for a better life. Apparently Hankook as fitted to my car from the factory are said to last well.

My experience with some dealers are that they are looking for work, they tried to get me to replace discs and pads at 10k and 2 years old on last Karoq due to “rust on inner face”. However the outer face was fine and I declined and brakes were still working fine a year later when it was part exchanged.

Thanks. Not heard back from the dealer yet. I think you’re right that I will end up paying for 4 wheels to be realigned as they are not badly scuffed yet.

Are they Bridgestones?

I had the issue on my Bridgestones, replaced the tyres with some Continentals on the rear and bridgestones on the front, meant to get it aligned and didnt, and last time i checked they werent wearing abnormally, but the bridgestones are definitely wearing worse than the contis.

Didnt bother with the dealership though. I asked them about the alignment issues and they shrugged and said "we dont have a machine, so we cant help you". Not covered under warranty after 6months anyway so wasnt gonna get anywhere.

Make sure the tyre pressures are on point, and get the alignment checked for peace of mind...
