Just bought a new Kodiaq - should I put a deposit down now on an Enyaq?

So as per the title of the thread, I've just taken delivery of my new Kodiaq - yes, it's another dirty, gas-guzzling, planet-killing diesel, and I've not even had it a week and only done 150 miles in it so far, but should I put a deposit down now on an Enyaq for delivery in 3-4 year's time? With the way things are going, it's not going to be that far off that long a wait. When I ordered my Kodiaq in October, Skoda were quoting 9 months wait on an Enyaq. By Christmas it was out to 52 weeks and now it's 18 months (if you're lucky!).

Tempted to just 'get in the queue' and if it turns up early then chop over to the Enyaq earlier than the 4 years I've potentially got the Kodiaq for. Maybe I'll start thinking about it over the next 12 months or so and consider it a bit more seriously if waiting times go over 2 years...

What do people think, or am I just being silly?

You might as well if you want an Enyaq in the end. Until the order is accepted by the factory you should be able to get your deposit back (if you have to pay one, some dealers don't ask for one).

Effectively there are very few cars being built in Europe in particular (but also Japan and USA are having issues), due to the combination of Covid, supply issues and the Ukraine situation. So placing an order for anything not built in China (where they're less affected) is going to be a long wait. That's just the way the world is now unfortunately.

I’m pretty sure it won’t take 4 years 😂😂

But yeah, maybe 12-18 months.

If I were you, I’d go and test drive one or two Enyaq’s again and see if you’re still interested in them. Waiting ‘soooo long’ can induce disinterest in something you initially felt quite excited about.

There are a lot of new EV models now; more than a year ago when I started looking and some of these look quite tasty. I particularly like the Polestar 2.

If you’re able to put down a fully refundable deposit, then maybe it’s not a bad idea- but only if you still feel drawn to the Enyaq. Also don’t assume you’ll get a decent chop-value on the Kodiaq; who knows what might happen to the second hand market going forwards.

All that said and 6 months in, I really like my Enyaq and have zero regrets about getting one (following on from a BMW). I hired a Kodiaq a couple of weeks ago and the only thing I preferred about it, was more direct access to the climate controls. Probably didn’t help that the steering wheel was on the wrong side of the car, but I was glad to get back in my Enyaq when I returned ;-)

Good luck deciding!!

I'd wait 2 years before you consider doing anything if I were you. You'd probably lose a lot on the Kodiaq if you did anything before then. I think used prices are starting to drop now and within about 18 months I think wait times on new cars will be back to normal. The Kodiaq is a great car, I have one currently which I'm chopping in for my new Enyaq, when I was having a chat with my dealer earlier he commented on what a great deal I got on my Kodiaq, I've had it 3 years and I will be trading it in for about £2000 less than I paid for it so its barely depreciated at all. He said that they are offering much less now for cars that come in as part ex. Enjoy your Kodiaq and see how things are in about 2-2 and a half years I think.
