Skoda charges £650 for their iV Universal charging cable with industrial connector 32A / 230V.
Why is their cable so expensive when you can buy third party cables for around £200 that do the same thing?
I'm assuming the Skoda cable is engineered to charge faster, but surely a 3 pin charging cable is only ever going to be an emergency backup in case you find yourself somewhere where a domestic 3 pin plug is the only option?
In which case why would anyone want to spend so much on a cable that they may never use?

Yep - crazy expensive....I didn't got for it as I have the home charger box, but it would be nice to have a basic granny charger in the boot for emergencies. Good thing with the Skoda one is that it comes with all kinds of adapters 3pin, 16A and 32A so you are covered for most eventualities...

Anybody have a good alternative with similar flexibility?

You can get one from Ohme that's £400, or if you're an Octopus Energy customer (existing or switch to them) then you can get it half price:

Makes the Skoda one seem somewhat overpriced, especially given that the Ohme one looks a bit more advanced and has some smart features that can control the charge via your smartphone. Don't think the Skoda one can do that...

You can buy a third party type 2 three pin charger for as little as £165.
Such a cable is likely to be used as an emergency backup if you find yourself stuck somewhere without any dedicated chargers, so spending as little as possible on something you may never use has to be attractive.

Your Outlander (like mine) has a Type 1 plug, so won't fit the Enyaq's Type 2 socket. However you could potentially change the plug for a Type 2 one.

But it's probably easier to just buy a granny charger from Argos/Screwfix/Halfords/Amazon etc. This is what I'll probably do as for example, I'd like to be able to top up occasionally at my mum's as she doesn't have a charge point, and there are few public chargers in her area. Always handy to have some means of charging, even if it's slow.

My colleague shelled out for the Skoda one and while it is expensive, it does have adapters for all types of socket, so you can plug in to 3-pin camping sockets, Shuko (European) etc. and also Type 2. It is bulky though. I already have the adaptors I need for the 3pin end from my Outlander, so I'll just replace the granny cable with a Type-2 one. Worth getting one you can reduce the current on if you're camping in Europe - Better a slow charge rate than taking out all the sockets at the campsite - "Happened to a friend"

Sorry you've had such a nightmare with your car. How long is the cable on the granny charger?
