We went for Zappi, and it can automatically adjust the output to what the panels are generating, and you can set a minimum % that you want from the panels, so it stops charging if the panels aren't producing much. Or you could just charge when the suns shining.

If your car is usually away from home during the charging day, or prefer to charge at night, then Octopus Go or Octopus Agile (other electricity providers are available) will provide sell you the electricity more cheaply off peak, e.g. in the middle of the night. Agile does this dynamically, publishing prices the day before, and Go works a bit like Economy 7, but with 4 hours at roughly a third the cost. The Ohme charger will automatically schedule charging for the cheapest tariff. Or you could just set the timer for when it costs less.

So as I see it, all chargers can work well with both panels and cheaper tariffs, it's simply a lifestyle choice about which you want to automate, and which you want to do yourself. When Zappi and Ohme have a baby, then it will all be automated :ugeek: .

The installers only needed a couple of weeks. They'll put the cable wherever works best, so it needs to come along a wall and around a corner, then they'll do that, so long as they can take the heavily armoured cable back to the main consumer unit, and the length of run is no more than 10-15 metres. They may be able to install longer cabling, but they may charge more for it, though there may be technical limitations to do with the higher resistance of longer runs.

I found out over the weekend that the Zappi can already integrate with both solar panels and the Octopus Agile tariff:

https://myenergi.com/time-of-use-tariffs/

I assume it can schedule intelligently based on both at the same time... e.g. schedule based on Agile but if solar kicks in then use as much as is available. Anyone tried that?

That's our tethered PodPoint installed.
Very neat and very professional installer.
All we need now is the Enyaq.

Looks good - I’m getting a PodPoint installed in Sept. I could have had it sooner but I delayed the install due to other works we’re having done until then.

Meanwhile the wait goes on, waiting for Octopus Energy to install a smart meter; until then, I can’t take advantage of their cheap night rate ‘Go’ tariff and I’m stuck on their 19p per kW rate !!!

Yeah, I've had a PodPoint for a couple of years for my current car, but can't use Octopus's EV rates because our smart meter is an EON one that's not compatible :(

From that I would assume that EON fitted a SMETS1 meter - it ought to be possible to request that to be switched over to the same meter network as the SMETS2 meters are on by default. This is done by the Data Communications Company (DCC), which is independent of all of the energy companies.

This is from the People's Energy Company's website:
"SMETS1 smart meters will become smart again soon
If you have a SMETS1 meter, don’t worry about replacing it with a newer SMETS2 meter. There’s a national programme underway to “migrate” SMETS1 meters to the same network as the SMETS2. This means that all smart meters will soon work across all energy suppliers. So your SMETS1 meter will go back to being smart (and will stay smart) regardless of which supplier you’re with.
This programme is being run by the organisation in charge of the smart meter network, the Data Communications Company (DCC). Right now, they say they’re aiming to complete the full project by summer 2021."

Hope that helps!

Thanks - I did know about this to be honest, as I work in the electricity generation and supply industry. :? But I'd forgotten about the target date and given my PHEV only takes about 9kWh, I haven't been too bothered about not having a lower tariff at night (just tend to plug it in when I park up). Might be worth checking with Octopus again then. :)

Our EO mini pro charger was installed earlier today. Octopus Energy came good.
Were I doing this over again I would have initiated the charger install at least five weeks before getting the car. As it is it has all been a bit leg before wicket or buttocks about face!

I found PodPoint really good as a company (so far). They offered me an installation date within 4 weeks of me ordering, although as I say, I have postponed it until Sept. I’m not getting the Enyaq until Oct.
