Pretty obvious why it’s going flat!

I’m booked in for 12V battery replacement on the 20th (if this is what they confirm it is) - but I think i might wait until the new year as I have a feeling that this could take far longer.

The 12V is not the cause, it’s getting damaged buy whatever is keeping the car awake - flattening it and letting it freeze - and then never holding a charge again.

A new 12V will just let this happen again. It’s the equivalent of fixing a leaking roof by changing the bucket it’s leaking into - no more mess on the floor - for while.
Well....they don't light up when my car is locked...

Can I just ask if this seems to have settled down for others also?

Temperatures of 4.5 where we are and not had the issue in last day....

We have done two other things also so not sure if it has influenced it.....

1. In the past we connected our cars to apps to see if there was any benefit of this - we decided there wasn't and deleted the accounts. I remember these connected via ENode so I dropped Enode an email asking if for our VIN, it was showing as connected to any apps / services. They confirmed it was still actively connected to two despite my accounts with these two being deleted. (Monta and Hugo Energy) - I have reached out to both - Hugo have confirmed a bug in their system and were very grateful as they effectively pay for me to be connected even though I dont have an account! They confirmed its now disconnected. Monta also looking into it and see the issue but less response. I wondered if others have ever done the same and some apps that you no longer use are still waking the car and draining the battery. Since I have had confirmation from Hugo (Monta unknown) this has resolved itself.

2. We have moved where we store the keys. We noticed that where we keep the keys the red light flashes but then stops eventually. My wife pointed out that within 8 months both key fobs have had their battery replaced as were flat. We moved these further from the car so they led light stops flashing before we put them down. I read that there is a possible software issue that when the car wakes up to charge the HV battery, if the key was last seen as in distance; more wakes up then necessary. But because when its cold Skoda are limiting the charge current to the 12V battery to prevent damage - actually more is used than is charged and so it gets worse and worse slowly.

As I say since my last post with the lights stuck on... it caused me to move the keys and I heard back from Hugo / Monta. And since then, everything is working - approach lights, touch sensors on doors - the app etc.

I share if it's any use to anyone else and not that I have 'fixed' it

I have not received the battery protection limit statements in the app recently. It is possible that Skoda has changed the behaviour as I now get "Remote car control - near battery limit. Some remote controls are now disabled - low 12V battery level. The remaining battery energy is needed for vital car functions. You can recharge the 12V battery by drivingn your car."
This is only displayed when I try to change a setting in the app, for example the HV battery charge limit. I tried changing the limit this evening because the charge limit was showing as 70%, which was not what I last set. The car was successfully charged using Intelligent Octopus last night but has not been used today, although it was unlocked to disconnect the charger cable. The app is no longer showing the car position. The position tracker had been shown as unavailable or unknown in Home Assistant for the last 8 hours, rather than at home. This occurred when the 12V battery state of charge, as reported by the BMS, was somewhere between 68 and 58, probably nearer the bottom of that range than the top. It continued until the BMS reported 12V battery SoC dropped to 50% at which point the inverter started charging the 12V battery, it became possible to change the charge limit and the car position was again reported in the app and the Home Assistant position tracker reported the car as being at home.

The error condition lasted for 6.5 hours. It would probably have been lomger if I had not increased the rate of discharge of the 12V battery by connecting Car Scanner to investigate the behaviour.

When I last experimented the error condition occurred at a lower 12V battery SoC. It is possible that the threshold is dependent on temperature. The 50% SoC threshold at which the inverter starts to charge the battery has been the same each time.

These were similar SOC I was getting - after doing these two things I mentioned and checking yesterday - the SOC was at 96%.

Car is showing on the map for me still, and woke up this morning when asked to start climate without issue.

4’C outside.

Just as an update on this from me... Skoda Assist came out and changed my battery at home on our 8 month old 85 Edition. The original battery failed the test instantly.

Using OBDeleven, before and after - you can see a real and noticeable difference.

If you are having this problem - a battery change is the answer. I am still unsure about what is causing it but he did say there was a known bad batch of 12V batteries awhile ago.

My 8mth old 85 went in for a noisy brake issue on Friday under warranty & the battery was found to be faulty & will be changed again under warranty on Monday! I'll see if I can have a word with the service engineer to see what's happening with them!

The Škoda assist told me that he thinks it’s a bad batch of batteries.

He seemed incredibly knowledgeable and the service was flawless.

He said that the same battery is used in other VWG cars - ice included and they are also having starting issues that he has been to.

What I learned in all of this (not from him) is that there is a diagnostic property called QKomfort - which I understand now as the limit of battery capacity that comfort features can draw (kessy, telematics for app, approach lights, interior lights) etc. This I understand is calculated from the health of the battery somehow - old battery showed 3AH - new shows 12Ah is available but it was increasing.

The voltage of our old battery when charging was seen as 15.4V plus - new is 14.8V. Indicating again that the previous one is poor.

I also managed to work out, that remote a/c / stationary a/c charges the 12V battery like driving. With the old battery I did this for 4 hours repeatedly - it reported 99% SOC but as soon as I stopped and car went to sleep the battery protection message came. I then drive for about 2 miles and stopped and the app etc worked for awhile until this 3AH limit was met. This told me that no matter what - the car needs driving to reset the limit which is what the notification in app says (it used to say drive or charge).

I think a software update will come to reset this limit after charging - so in the morning the app should work for a bit to enable the a/c at least.

I also think a software update could come to alter the charging somehow - so the battery doesn’t get as bad and this limit so low.

I also know that the car does charge the 12V from the HV in an ‘emergency’. It’s the bottom property in the screenshot - showing this has been activated 9 times for the old battery.

My 4 month old Enyaq coupe went into the dealers recently for another issue but I also reported this 12V battery issue - as in app warnings. They said they checked the 12V and nothing wrong but told me to charge it (I couldn't leave the car with them overnight for them to do this and check). Well, I've charged the 12V, battery charger said it was fully charged......30 mins later I get the app warning about remote capability disabled due to low 12V battery. I should add I have also seen the odd dashboard warning about the 12V since the car was in the dealers. Seems to me there is something seriously wrong with it. As I ppointed out to the dealers, whats the point having an app to allow you to pre-heat the car if the app is always disabled! It's booked in......earliest date was 28th Jan! I'll report back on what they find.
