This has worked for me on the last two cars that I’ve had - and my Skoda dealership said I’d be able to do the same prior to registering my Enyaq.

Obviously there are regional identifiers regarding the first two characters (in mainland UK) so that’ll be fixed, but a friendly dealership might let you pick from a list of about 20 or so combinations which they currently have allocated for their next batch of registrations.

You might get lucky and find a nice relevant one, or one that’s easier to remember. Might also help to avoid the dealership just allocating a random one which you don’t like, or is embarrassing (as I once had on a company car years ago. Basically the name of our biggest competitor on my plate !!)
iV80 Loft, Black, 21” Betria, 125kW, Climate Plus, Asst Drive Basic. Tethered PodPoint. Ordered May 2021. Delivered Nov 2021. Regrettably returned Jan 2024 (Company car. Changed jobs).

I've found that this does depend on your dealer - on my last car (LR Disco Sport), I was given no choice despite asking, whereas on my current Skoda Kodiaq, the dealer sent me a list of about 20 or so to choose from. No choice over the first two letters (as you mentioned) or the year identifier, but I actually chose WTF as the last three letters! At least I'll never forget it!

Thanks to this post I remembered to ask my dealer on one of my status update checks if it’ll be possible to choose from a list of number plates they have ready for my car during registration and I was pleasantly surprised to get a yes (because I’ve been incredibly patient waiting they said). 😁

I asked, and they said no it was automatically assigned.
Nor could I get UK flagged plates for driving on the continent, just standard ones. I'll just have to get stickers

“Computer says No”.

😩

I suppose it depends on the dealership. Maybe try again with a different person at the dealership and tell them that others have been able to and you can’t understand why they won’t do it - and you’d hope that a £40k + order from yourself might mean they’d be a bit flexible. I’ve been able to do this 3 times before. Audi. Merc. Not BMW. Skoda.

I've managed to get my initials onto the last 2 new cars purchased for myself. Ford seem to be very open to helping customers with this, Skoda wasn't helpful at all when I bought her Kodiaq - we got a fairly close match but no cigar!.
Enyaq 80 Suite, Race Blue, Panoramic Sunroof, 20" Vega Alloys and a silly overpriced rubber mat for the boot.

My dealer offered me the choice from around 50 registrations, found one that combined mine and my wife's initials. Looking at those already taken it would appear that this was offered to all purchasers.
Ordered June 21. Race Blue, Suit, 19" Proteus wheels, 100kw charging, Heat Pump, Comfort seat plus, Climate package plus, Transport pack, Drive Sport basic, Assisted Drive basic, Parking basic. Then I ran out of money!

My dealer called to arrange delivery and also give me the opportunity to choose the last three letters of the number plate. Incredibly nice of the dealer. :D
