Just got my Enyaq, and pretty pleased. Was leafing through the manual last night and was dismayed to see that they say one should not used a tailgate-mounted bike rack.
Does anyone know why this is and what would happen if I did put a bike rack on the tailgate?
It's an SUV and I'd like to use it to do some sports...

I looked into this as I mountain bike quite a lot, it seems to be because of the plastic rear spoiler.
A boot mounted rack will put strain on the top of that as the straps go over, it will likely crack or snap if you put too much load on there.

I went for the roof bars in the end with Thule 591 carriers - it does affect your MpKwH a bit, but they're more than secure up there and out of the way so I can still use the boot to get changed out of muddy gear once I've secured the bikes back up there.

After 1000 miles on my car I'm averaging 3.8 miles per kwh.. When I have 2 bikes on the roof, that comes down to about 3.2 for that specific journey.

Skoda suggests either tow-bar or roof mounted.

There was a discussion about doing this over on the Kodiaq Forum - similar recommendation from Skoda afaik, not recommended, either go for towbar or roof mounted.
One of the issues is how high some of the tailgate mounted racks will sit on a car like the Enyaq. There are a couple of people who have used the Menabo Polaris 3 (or its predecessor, the Logic 3). One of the issues would be how high the rack sits, making it in effect a 2-man job to fit it and then mount bikes on it. I also think that as well as the plastic spoiler not being designed to take the strain of the top straps, there's also the issue of the tailgate design and the strain on the glass, so again not designed to support the weight. Best people who will give you excellent advice are https://www.roofbox.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQ ... gKuLfD_BwE

Far better to go for a towbar mounted option, but if you don't have the towbar already, then this soon adds significantly to the cost. Likewise roof mounted as you need the bars and mounting feet as well as the bike rack(s).
