Skoda Enyaq Gets Fast Charging Upgrade.

https://www.thecarexpert.co.uk/skoda-en ... g-Upgrade/

This sounds fantastic on the surface, but the company I lease my Enyaq from say the following,

“I have asked the dealer and this is here response - There a software upgrade to increase the battery charge time. It £440 Inc Vat to do. Any Skoda dealer can do it. So you can organise this directly with any VW dealer.”

£440 inc VAT? What a scam to do as an over the air upgrade, which I guess means you don't even have to drive to a dealer.

Has anyone receive cheaper prices that this? Or, are there any other options? It would be good to upgrade from my 50kW charger to a 120kW without paying through the nose.

Is this £440 to go from 50 kw to 125kw as opposed to from 100kw - to 120kw? In which case the price is similar to the factory cost of going from 50kw to 100kw.

When I ordered mine at the beginning of December, there was no choice to add the 125kW fast charge because it was included on all models. I think the spec was changed to include it a week or so beforehand. My build will be MY22 although I've not been told the factory have accepted the order yet.

List prices have gone up on the new cars to take this into account. But i guess they’ll charge existing owners who don’t have it?

It does seem a bit raw to have to pay for something which your car already has the capability of achieving, albeit locked away in coding somewhere - as opposed to an actual tangible ‘thing’ which gets fitted - but this is common in other areas too.

Professional Design software, video editing software, music production software etc often has full functionality for a limited period of time, and then you have to pay hundreds - or even thousands - to unlock it beyond the trial period.

Okay, not quite the same thing but you know what I mean :-)

Do people here think that if you ordered after the spec change, in my case the 8th Dec, I've already paid for the upgraded charging option, or will I be expecting a £440 bill for 125Kw?

I have the 50KW charger which hasn’t been an issue as I have only used a 50KW charger once since July last year! The home charger meeting my needs. I do however think it’s galling to pay £440 for the convenience of faster charging. If this can be increased through software updates. I did consider the Ioniq 5, and if I was doing high motorway miles regularly it might have been a deal breaker.

There’s a running competition between the hackers who let you unlock hardware that’s included but locked out on Teslas, and Tesla who keep changing the encryption and security to endure people pay for it as intended. 😄
