I've managed to pick up a new Sportline 80x, but the dealer is 100miles away from me. They agreed to pop it on a trailer to me as I'm selling my existing car via Carwow (far better price than trade in).

I had a call from the salesperson today and the weight of the car seems to be an issue. They quoted it at 2.8T, I pointed out it was 2.1t kerb weight and 2.8T was the maximum weight it could carry!

Has anyone else had their car delivered on a trailer and experienced any issues?

Mine was delivered on a trailer - and they were carrying an ID3 too. Captured on my doorbell camera.

Thanks, that's clearly over 3T of car between the two!

Definitely double-check those weight specs. I ran into a similar situation when my car was delivered. The salesperson got the kerb weight mixed up with the total permissible weight. During that time, I ended up looking at some used trucks near me because I thought I might have to haul the car myself if the delivery fell through. It was reassuring to know there were suitable trucks available nearby.

I had mine delivered on a trailer- towed by a pickup, this can tow 3.5t.

Generally depending on what the vehicle is will depend on how much it can tow- a trailer on something like a pickup will be able to tow 3.5t but a van lowloader would but considerably less if the base vehicle was a 3.5t vehicle.

There are many factors, the trailers themselves are sometimes only rated to 2600 or 3000kg for instance, and that includes the weight of the trailer which might be 800kgs. Then the capacity of the tow vehicle obviously comes into it.

Plenty of tow vehicle/trailer combinations will be perfectly fine to carry an Enyaq, many heavier cars like Discoveries and Range Rovers are transported on trailers. Large 4x4's can often tow a full 3.5 tonnes and larger car transporter trailers will be rated to carry 3.5T too.

Beavertail recovery trucks like the one in the photo at the top of the post are a much dodgier area. Many are built and registered on a 3.5T platform, but the empty van can weigh up towards 2Tonnes. As a result they may only have a payload of around 1500kg. Its unlikely many of those type of vehicles can legally carry an enyaq, especially an 85x. They are often seen wildly overloaded and operated by folks who are either clueless, or deliberately flouting the law.

There's not a chance that the van was within its plated weight. The picture makes it look like a 3.5t chassis cab (single wheel on each side of the single rear axle), which has a bare payload of at most 2t. Add the weight of the Enyaq and the transporter body to it and it's easily 0.5-1t overweight.

The trailer is probably just about OK - twin axle trailers normally have a 2.7t plated maximum, with a c.6-700kg bare weight.

I was quoted £1k+ to deliver my car from Southampton to Leeds on a trailer or truck and take back my part exchange car.
We opted to have a short break in a hotel in Southampton and drove down to collect the car and drive it home the 255m.
Nice mini break and saved over £500.
