Driving behaviours in snow?
Sadly we're not allowed studded tyres in the UK as generally most major roads are gritted and cleared of ice and snow, and are made of soft tarmac that would be ripped up by metal studs. The plastic type studs would wear down on the cleared sections.
I've driven on studded tyres extensively in Iceland, and can confirm they are superb in snow. I did learn that on thin, hard ice they can be a little unnerving until you get used to how hard you can brake without losing grip. My next trip to Iceland will actually be the first time after 4000km I've driven there on non-studded tyres.
But yes - how a car grips the road is very dependent on the tyres. And EVs sold in the UK generally have tyres that reduce noise and increase range on clear tarmac rather than be optimised for grip on snow and ice.

Hi there all
My first post -
Has anyone considered/got snow socks for 19 inch wheels (front & rear) for infrequent snow conditions for Enyaq? I've had 2 sets over last 12years for Mini Cooper D and they've got me out of trouble/home from work at 11pm when only 4WDs and the farmer, snow ploughing across the drive, around...
Many thanks
Expectantly awaiting arrival of Loft 60 Arctic Silver, ordered 2nd Aug, build week 44, ETA Christmas week...

IV60, Arctic Silver, heat pump, tow bar, parking assist, ordered July 21 received Dec 21.
Could you please tell me, how the car behaves in snow and ice? Do the wheels are slipping? I ordered Enyaq 80x but after 6 months waiting, the car is not available. My dealer told me that I can get Enyaq 80 Rwd but I’m worried about losing grip in winter time and that car can go sideways.
I live in iceland and i will be using tires with spikes in winter. Do driving in winter will be uncomfortable?
I have heard it both ways. I think the consensus is, that RWD can handle winter well, especially with winter (studded) tyres. Atleast people here in Finland have been coping well.
However, many report that the traction control works bad when starting from slippery surfaces. At low speeds the wheels stop turning and car wont move.
This should be an easy software fix. I think I would sttick with waiting for 4WD after 6months. It has the snow mode coming too!

I have no problems at all driving in the wintertime, during normal driving I have not felt the need for 4x, so no does not feel slippery and I and not feel any difference when compared to my previous car which was a 4x.Martin999 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 10:21 amCould you please tell me, how the car behaves in snow and ice?
