There are granny leads that are switchable 6/8/10 amps. So, it is possible to reduce the current to levels that are normal for any appliance.

Remember to get a good quality UK to European adapter. This one I found on Amazon is rated to 13A and at the time, there wasn’t anyone reporting any issues with smouldering or anything like that. In use (in the summer) the adapter only got warm. Definitely not hot.

I’m NOT advocating or recommending this particular product by the way (do your own homework ;-) ) but it did work fine for me.
