Hi,

This might be interesting for anyone considering taking their Enyaq into Europe from the UK (as we’ve just done).

4 adults (our 2 kids are adult-sized) plus a boot full of luggage.

2800 miles, with a mixture of motorway driving and city driving (perhaps 70:30 split) with A/C set to around 20oC most of the time. Final stats as shown in the photo. 3.3 miles/kWh from the moment we left, to when we got back.

IV80. No heat pump. 21” Betria alloys.

70mph (115km/h) for most of the motorway sections with 4 or 5 thirsty Autobahn blasts for a couple of minutes each time, where ‘permissible’, to see how fast it can go (166 km/h by the way).

800 mile trip into western Poland required 3 charges, of roughly 50 mins each (after setting off fully charged from Surrey, down to Folkestone).

Used Chargemap (which is brilliant by the way) to identify charge stops along the route. Although it suggested 7 shorter stops roughly 100 miles apart along the route, I decided to pick fewer stops, roughly every 200 miles as I know my Enyaq can easily go well over 200 miles, even at 70mph.

Chargers were empty ! Where are all the EV’s in mainland Europe ? 🤷‍♂️. Had no problem whatsoever getting onto them. However, knowing which card to use to get the best deal, was definitely guesswork! I have a Chargemap card, and selected ‘Chargemap Compatible’ stations within the Chargemap app (so I knew I had at least one compatible payment method) - but then discovered better rates are sometimes available with Octopus Juice (I’m an Octopus Energy customer) or Skoda PowerPass. It’s complete guesswork to be honest and unlike a petrol pump, you’re actually left wondering how much you’re going to pay per kWh. ChargeMap gives an indication of the most you’re likely to pay per kWh as far as I could tell, but jumping onto the Octopus Juice app when I’d arrived at each stop, enabled me to see if they support that particular stop and if they are any cheaper than the rate shown by ChargeMap. Avoid charging in Belgium if you can; it seems to be one of the most expensive places to charge, at least in my experience. Wait until you reach the NL!

Incidentally for Poland (where we spent most of the last 2 weeks) you definitely need the ORLEN app, and the Greenway App. They seem to be the most common fast chargers along the Polish motorways.

Overall, taking the Enyaq across roads well travelled for us over the last 20+ years (but first time with an EV), wasn’t anywhere near as ‘scary’ as I thought it might be, and the time we spent charging on the way to / back, was comparable to the time we’d stop to rest anyway.

Thanks for the great info @Goaty. Sounds like you had an amazing trip and picked up a lot of Knowledge on the way. Did you have to adjust your headlights at all for the different countries.

On my standard LED’s (non Matrix), there doesn’t appear to be any way to adjust them for continental driving - or even up / down according to load - and I had to guess at where to place my Eurolite deflectors. You might be able to see them in the photo. The instructions weren’t very clear for the Enyaq and I think I put them in the wrong place, but didn’t get flashed once by anyone on the opposite side.

I've just driven about 1200 miles round Iceland. Shame it was in a Toyota Highlander self-charging hybrid. 1.5kWh battery really doesn't do much more than let you tootle round carparks and towns a bit before it runs out. But I guess at least it charges quickly :D

Saw loads of charge points, even in the middle of nowhere (eg at a waterfall some 20km from the nearest village). Lots of EVs but no Enyaqs :(

/\ nice - I bet that gets some rapid-charge abuse!

Apart from the Netherlands where I saw 2 Enyaq’s this time, I didn’t see a single Enyaq (or iD4 actually) in all the time we spent going through Germany, or the time we spent in Poland. I saw a few Mach E’s, Merc EQC’s and Tesla’s in Poland but not many other EV’s.

Regarding reaction to the Enyaq itself when parking up or driving through busy cities; nothing whatsoever! No comments, no prolonged stares, no curiosity at all! Bizarrely there was more interest (in Poland) in my ‘new shape’ Vauxhall Vectra back in 2002. I was one of the first people in Europe to receive one and drove it overseas almost immediately; I had a lot of comments from curious drivers: not least because back then, people thought the Vauxhall logo was a Skoda logo and asked me if the Vectra was a “new Skoda” which they’d never seen before 🤣

By the way - this trip was the first time I was able to prove to myself that my Enyaq does indeed have the ability to charge faster than ‘standard’. This generally tailed off to around 50 kW’s as I got into the high 90’s percentage wise (I know we’re not really meant to go above 80% but there was no one waiting and I felt more comfortable squeezing as much in as possible, in case my next planned stops were out of order, or some unexpected Autobahn closer meant we’d have to re-route).

No issues going to 100% on a rapid charger if you're not blocking it from someone else using it and you're going to be driving soon afterwards.

Just got back from a similar trip South Wales to Almeria, Spain & back, via Calais - 3,200 miles all in supposed to have been in my new Enyaq but had to be in my 142k mile Outlander and not really cost effective to public charge; to be fair it didn't miss a beat but £620 in petrol! Broke my heart  .
