How to interpret the bidirectional charging screen. Software version 1701. Software version screen broken

Just got an Enyaq iV 80 in July 2023

I have a Bidirectional charging screen, but don't know what the numbers mean.

bi.png

Remaining running time 4000 of 4000 hours
Remaining energy 10000 of 10000 kWh
Can anyone interpret what these apparent limits might mean in the context of bidirectional charging?
I asked support@skoda-auto who said "For the bidirectional charging issue, we have transferred your request to the Eli team, who are responsible for charging issues."

I was excited to think that I might be able to use the car as a massive battery to sell electricity back to the grid (via Octopus) at peak hours 5-7pm. However when I look at all the providers of bidirectional wallboxes (different because it connects to the DC port and the wallbox needs an inverter in it) there are trials in 2023, but nothing promised in the UK until 2024 at least :-( So maybe I need to install a conventional wallbox unless anyone has found a way to get bidirectional?

The software version screen is broken

However System info shows I'm on version 1701

But what does 1701 translate to in terms of ME3.x as described elsewhere?
I asked Skoda and got strange answers:
Support@skoda-auto said "we have checked our system and have found that your software version is 1702 and MOD4. We have also escalated your issue to our technical department to analyze the error screenshot." On reflection they conceded that it does look like it is 1701.
After further thought they said "According to our technical department, your vehicle has software version 0556 which translates to ME3.5. Unfortunately, there is no documentation available for this version." Strange that 0556 isn't what it says on the vehicle itself. Surprising (and slightly worrying) that there is no documentation for a version that's now out there on the road (possibly in my car, but who knows what version it really is!).

On the positive side - it's a lovely car!

Software: 1701 = ME 3.5, the latest software currently only available on new builds.

Skoda will soon no longer be identifying software as an "ME" number !

bi directional wont be cheap. Personally i dont see how it makes any sense. The cars battery has a finite lifetime. To use it as a grid battery you need to spend thousands of pounds on a specialist wallbox, then become beholden to the electricity suppliers needs, all to save a couple quid here and there, and all the while your depleting your batteries life?

Further Skoda appear to have implemented a lifetime limit on the car allowing a maximum of 10000kwh to be sent to the grid (presumably because their battery warranty is based around expected lifetimes and they know it wont last if its getting hammered constantly with V2G use).

To put that into context, if every night you pump 20kwh into the grid then in under 1.5 years the system will have locked out the bidirectional function entirely.

If they do have bidirectional does this mean V2L can be used too?

If it’s any reassurance, I’ve got the same software info error message on mine - new car just delivered this week.

It also says Software version 1701 in the System Information screen.

I wonder what ME3.5 (if that’s what it is) is meant to do differently?

Mine, delivered 4 weeks ago looks the same, except that the Navigation Database updated from version 23.6 to 23.7 in the last week. I have not received any explanation for the software information error message.

I understood my Feb/March built car was on 3.2, but I found this screen in the menu?
Could I have 3.5?

I do agree that it doesn’t seem a good idea to do this anyway. Wouldn’t work for long and will reduce battery life.

I went into Skoda garage today to book first service at 2 years. Bi-directional charging came up but Service support admitted knowing little about it. Obviously came here and found this thread. Based on what little I learnt from Skoda I concur with the interpretations in this thread.
I was a bit peeved to start having just had an AC coupled battery added to my solar system, at not insignificant cost. However, in support of Aragorn's comments above, one of the battery capabilities I was advised to look at was warranty cycles and depth of discharge DOD. The warranty cycles is 10,000, which if I was to hit it every day gives me 27 years, DOD is 90% of 13.5kWh so should handle most dull winter periods if not from solar but from low tariff OI. Definitely wouldn't want to compromise car performance or get into warranty battle with Skoda over battery performance , which is less than 30% loss over 10 years, I think!!

I have a 71 plate Enyaq. Does that mean it won't ever support bidirectional charging?

I've seen bidirectional charging flash up as an option at times but it quickly disappears before I can select it.

It's currently on ME3.0 although I'm booked in for a recall/service and hope this will be updated at the same time.
