Unlocked the car this morning to fetch something from the boot, and the dashboard bonged and popped up with this message.

The car had successfully charged overnight as normal.

Scanned for fault codes with carscanner, got a huge list but many old and unimportant ones. Cleared them and shut the car off. Error remained on the dashboard.

Left it for 15mins then returned to the car and turned it on, the fault was gone, drove it round the block, nothing untoward happened so parked it back home.

Then after lunch the wife went to take the kids to a party and "bing" the message has returned.

Scanned for codes again, and got a short list, but nothing seems related to the electric drive specifically, though i note the electric drive and BMS dont appear on the log at all, so perhaps carscanner cant talk to those modules? I've been meaning to buy an OBDEleven.

I've plugged in the charger and it seems to charge just fine.

Got the latest update as never bothered about it so got 3.2 upgrade and day later got the same error and funnily enough it was post charging.
Drove it for a month and the other day it disappeared.
What I would say is my car alarm goes off at least once a day. If using intelligent Octopus during the night the alarm triggers at each end of charging period so not ggod for the neighbours end up sleeping with keys in my hand to stop alarm. I think it might be the secondary battery in the car. Car is booked in for mot and for this drive warning error.

Interesting,

The car offered some sort of update last week on the screen. It's only just started this issue today though.

The alarm also went off earlier while I was out on the drive. I thought it was because I'd left the obd dongle connected. Our lounge and bedroom are at the back of the house so I'd probably not hear it if it was going off at other times.

Some sort of update bug perhaps?

ME3 update should be carried out in garage where they reset the car for you.

Please don’t think they push out ME3 on OTA. OTA are all incremental updates which doesn’t require a car reset.

Since having the car, I had to hard reset the car twice by unplugging the 12V battery. First time it was a week after getting the car and after a charge in the morning where the red warning popped up in the dash saying the car’s 12V battery is gone and yellow sign saying drive battery warning and won’t let me unplug the charger cable. Called the Skoda connect people who sent out AA and then promptly unplugged the 12V and pulled the emergency cord to release the charger cable. No further message got regarding 12V and HV battery pack. Tho I did call to arrange a diagnostic with local VW and they said the earliest appointment was May and the fault happened in Jan.

The second time was when the car’s infotainment went black screen. I can drive the car but with no infotainment. I reset the 12V myself.

Car behaved fine after both reset.

Might help you in your situation

Got OBDEleven thru today and tried it out.

It found a bunch of codes much the same as carscanner, but it also pulled a code from the BMS:

Trouble codes:
P0BBD00 - Hybrid Battery Pack Voltage Variation Exceeded Limit

Looking in the live data most of the cells were around 3.91v but one cell was down at 3.87v. Not sure if this is why the light is on, but does look a bit worrying.

Yeah it got the me3 update at the dealer at the start of the year.
This OTA was something else.

Did you learn or find anything else about this?

In similar situation with what you described… had the car since May and all fine until this morning where electric drive not working appeared on the screen and the message won’t go… everything is working as expected.

Car charged overnight on intelligent octopus as normal.

Wife unplugs the car and gets in this morning to this message.

We to had a software update a few weeks ago which actually seemed to increase the range - I posted about it on here.

I wonder if this software update changed the max cell voltage level but also tightened the tolerance of the checks.

How do I make the message go?

Had VW/Skoda assistance out today and apparently the issue is the same already mentioned.

Trouble codes:
P0BBD00 - Hybrid Battery Pack Voltage Variation Exceeded Limit

Technician said that the battery recall issue impacts more cars than the VIN range in original recall notice but can’t be sure of this. Also was told will be traction battery out and cell replacement job.

I asked why this issue caused the alarm to go off at random and he said there is no error codes to do with the alarm system but maybe because I have been checking the car and DTC codes a few times the battery went low for some reason and triggered the alarm. I’m not entirely convinced of this.

He has emailed my nearest battery specialist and advised them the car will be there tomorrow, and according to the follow up call from ŠKODA assistance they can’t refuse to work or take the car, but actually have to have it diagnosed and parts ordered within 72 hours of the cars arrival. I should also get a courtesy car or hire car of equal size for the duration - again I am unconvinced so let’s see what happens when I phone at 8:30 on Monday with a message of ‘I’m on my way - you should have email from ŠKODA assistance’.

I have noticed no range reduction but have recently noticed a range increase since the 04A4 update - I guess this means there was a reduction.

I’ll keep this updated for anyone that’s interested

Mines booked in at the end of November, such is the ridiculous lead times for service currently...

In the mean time i'll just keep using it.

I could have forced the issue and got it taken there via recovery, but in all likelyhood its then just going to sit in the dealership yard until they can work on it... Be interesting to see how you get on.

I dont think my alarm has gone off again.
