As the title says, I just got an email from Tesla saying that the Model Y is now available for UK orders as of today, 15/10/21, with anticipated deliveries in "early 2022".

Price is quite high though - £54,990 for the Extended Range model and £64,990 for the Performance model. Not many options though other than colour (only white is free, grey balck or blue is £1100 and red is £2100!), wheels on the ER version and then the Enhanced Autopilot (£3400) or Full Self Driving Capability (£6800). On that basis, it's only really competing with the Enyaq 80X Sportline with loads of options, which can get as high as £55k.

What's not available is either the 7 seat option (guess it will come in time, but not cheap afaik) and the option for a towbar - that's just listed as "available for purchase after delivery" with no price.

Seeing as it was on the shortlist of options for my next car along with the Kodiaq (what I've ordered) and Enyaq 80X Sportline, I'm kind of glad I didn't hold on for the Tesla. Just a bit too expensive.

Thought people might be interested though.

As the Model 3 long range is £48.5k, the Model Y is the sort of price I was expecting. Is it worth £6.5k more for just a different exterior? Not for me, but there are many who will go mad for it.
I did not think the Model 3 was anything special when I test drove one. Sure it's fast, but I did not think the interior was that nice, and most of what I did like was the gimmicks that you'd use a few times and never bother with again.
Although the Model Y does have a larger boot than the Enyaq.
I like tesla, but the hype that surrounds them, and those that evangelise them really puts me off. It reminds me of the first few iphones and the cult of Steve Jobs, or kids when they argue about what console is better.

I was really looking for a replacement for my Kodiaq and the option of 7 seats in the Model Y appealed as we do use the 3rd row in our current car occasionally. We've got 11 y/o twins and when my parents visit it's really useful that we can all go out in one car rather than having to take 2 everywhere we go.

That said, what I've seen of the Model Y with the optional 3rd row is a bit mixed - the space in the seats is fine for kids, but it leaves a step in the boot when they are folded flat and when they're up there isn't really any usable boot space. Something of a moot point though as the 7 seat version isn't available initially in the UK it would seem.

It all added into the reason I ended up ordering another Kodiaq rather than switching to an Enyaq. Maybe once the kids are a bit older and just too big to go in the 3rd row we'll just accept that 5 seats is enough, at which point the Enyaq would be more suitable, but for our family, just not yet.

I was also keenly interested in the Y; until I was told by Tesla showroom a few months ago that it was only LR and Performance coming to UK. I also see it has window tints which I hate. I do think the Model Y will sell like hot cakes in the UK. The SR model 3 would do me, but I did not like the single screen to my left and missing HUD (have it on my BMW and would not be without one now). Very happy with my choice of the Skoda Enyaq, but am getting twitchy about lead times. On the plus side maybe Elon will have opened up the Superchargers for us by the time I get it next year - now that would be a silver lining.

The boot is less than 1 metre wide, and it’s a hatchback so not very deep at the top - so, like the Ionic 5 I wouldn’t be able to get my dog crates in. So that rules it out for me as much as the price.

I like minimalist but that central screen and nothing else is a step too far I have had HUD for the 4 years and find it to be the most useful part of a driver display, if Tesla could fit that i'm sure it would make keeping an eye on the speed a hell of a lot easier, oh and it is very ugly unless you are a fish or a frog

Model 3 shook my fillings out when I tested it, one of the reasons i held on for an enyaq. Tests in Europe suggest Model Y is worse.

Huge boot volume though and of course access to all super chargers. There are plenty of positives including they are so much more efficient than other EV’s as well - but that leads to the slightly marmite appearance. Personally think Model S is good looking.

If Tesla would drop the childish obsession with 0-60 they’d be able to soften it up a bit, an SUV that gets to 60 in 5 seconds or lower is just daft, especially on UK roads - good luck missing those pot holes.

Be interesting to see the lease prices and see how they compare with high end Enyaqs, E Trons, Ioniq etc. Ultimately most people will lease so it comes down to whether they can afford it.

Closer than I thought, obviously insurance on Tesla might be a bit pricey - pretty much all Tesla are group 40 I believe

Large volume yes, but not necessarily useful dimensions. The boot is less than 1m wide, which is surprising given the overall size of the car, and it's still a hatchback so not much height once you move away from the back seats. So fine if you've got a lot of smaller objects like bags, but no use for things like dog crates or transporting a washing machine.

This is one area the Enyaq still has a bit of an advantage in the market at the moment. There aren't many EVs with large boxy boots, most are hatchbacks due to the importance of aerodynamics. There are some starting to appear from Stellantis brands, Mercedes, BMW and of course the Chinese companies though.
